To the Moms in my life

To the many Moms in my life
but especially you Mom because I’m your son,
and also to you Heather, the mother of our children.

I
wanted to give you the greatest present
in all the world to show to you,
just how much you’ve meant to me,
a simple child’s gratitude.

But,
I couldn’t find anything
that measured up to you,
or if I did could not afford
all the things I wanted to.

I
planned on making something special
to illustrate my love,
just to capture for a moment
all the things you’ve done.

But,
I found that time is tricky
that there’s never quite enough,
to capture everything you do,
it’s really just too tough.

I
thought of writing this to you
while tucking in the girls,
just a note to share with you,
the greatest in the world.

But,
I was not sure how it’d turn out,
It’d certainly be mine,
to say the things I wanted to,
but did it really have to rhyme?

I
thank you for all the things,
you’ve done to make us strong,
taking all the highs the lows
and bringing us along.

No buts here,
there’s none to contradict,
you’re the only one I’ll ever have
and the only one I’d pick.

I love you.

Christopher Martin Hoff R.I.P.

I was on Facebook today, which I infrequently am, and saw a post by someone that made me scream “NO!” The amazingly talented and kind hearted artist Christopher Hoff, age 36, passed away! Matthew and I are devastated to say the least. This is a huge loss and a huge shock.

Besides knowing Christopher through being a grant recipient at Artist Trust, Matthew and I both spent a little time with him last year at Vermillion during our show. He was such a nice, easy going guy, and one of those people who, when talking with him, you felt a true connection. He spoke highly of Matthew’s work, which was a real honor for Matthew, coming from someone making such extraordinary work.

We also had the opportunity to watch him work a bit outside Vermillion on his piece “Totem 2”, which was such a memorable experience to see an artist like him in action.

It has been suggested that Christopher be nominated for the Mayor's Arts Award (due before April 17th). If you’d like to help nominate Christopher Martin Hoff visit:

caption: the image above is of our dear bunny Perri, a domestic rabbit Christopher and our friend Shannon rescued off the streets of Pioneer Square, using a bag of lettuce. Living in a small downtown apartment, Shannon sent out a request looking for someone to give Perri a good home. We were then living in Kingston in an old farmhouse with a barn and big chicken coop, which became Perri’s home until we all moved to Vashon, where he spent the remainder of his days.
